(Parulidae; Ϯ Black-and-white Warbler M. varia) Gr. μνιον mnion  seaweed (doubtless an error for μνιοεις mnioeis  moss); τιλλω tillō  to pluck; "Vieillot wrote sometimes mniotilta, sometimes mniotilla. The conjectured application is to the weaving of moss into a nest." (Coues 1882); "MNIOTILTE, Mniotilta.  Motacilla, Lin.
