(Furnariidae; Thorn-tailed Rayadito A. spinicauda) Gr. αφραστος aphrastos  marvellous  < intensive prefix α- a- ; φραζω phrazō  to show; ουρα oura  tail; "Oxyurus is, however, untenable in ornithology, by reason of Oxyurus Rafinesque for a genus of fishes.  No other name being available, it may be known as Aphrastura, from αφραστος, mirabilis, and ουρα, cauda, the type being Motacilla spinicauda Gmelin." (Oberholser 1899); "Aphrastura Oberholser, 1899, Proc. Acad. Nat. Sci. Philadelphia, p. 210.  New name for Oxyurus Swainson, 1837, preoccupied by Oxyurus Rafinesque, 1810 (Pisces)." (JAJ 2021).
