ASARCORNIS
(Anatidae; Ϯ White-winged Duck A. scutulata) Gr. ασαρκος asarkos without flesh < negative prefix α- a- ; σαρξ sarx, σαρκος sarkos  flesh; ορνις ornis, ορνιθος ornithos  bird; "ASARCORNIS.  Asarcornis, Salvad. MS. . . .Type A. scutulata.  Allied to the genus Sarcidiornis, with which it agrees in general shape, in the indentations of the bill, in the wedge-shaped tail, in the conformation of the feet, but has no comb; the bill is somewhat larger and flatter." (Salvadori 1895); "Asarcornis Salvadori, 1895, Cat. Birds Brit. Mus., 27, pp. 46 (in key), 59.  Type, by original designation and monotypy, Anas scutulata S. Müller."
