(Alaudidae; Ϯ Rudd's Lark H. ruddi) Gr. ἑτερος heteros different, another; genus Mirafra Horsfield, 1821, bush lark (see Heteronyx); "Mr. CLAUDE H. B. GRANT said that Mr. TOM IREDALE had kindly drawn his attention to the fact that the name Heteronyx which he proposed for a genus of African Larks in the Bull. B.O.C. xxi. p. 111 (1908), was preoccupied in insects. He therefore proposed to rename it Heteromirafra, and the species must in future stand as Heteromirafra ruddi (Grant)." (Grant 1913); "Heteromirafra C. Grant, 1913, Bull. British Ornith. Club, XXXI, p. 114. New name for Heteronyx C. Grant, 1908, preoccupied by Heteronyx Guérin-Méneville, 1831 (Coleoptera)."
