(Strigidae; Ϯ Tengmalm's Owl A. funereus) L. aegolius  screech owl  < Gr. αιγωλιος aigōlios  bird of ill omen living in rocks and caves, probably some sort of owl; "11. Strix Tengmalmi.   ...   11. Die Fußwurzeln und die verkürzten Zehen werden befiedert, Flügel und Schwanz kürzer, der Kopf dicker, und die Ohröffnungen sehr groß.   Char[akter]. Käuze mit dick befiederten Fußwurzeln und Zehen, und großen Ohröffnungen.   Leb[ensart].
