(Melanocharitidae; Ϯ Pygmy Longbill O. pygmaeum) Gr. οιδεω oideō to swell; στομα stoma, στοματος stomatos mouth; "Gen. nov. Oedistoma, mihi. (οιδεω tumeo; στομα os). Novum genus generi MELILESTI Salvad. affine, sed rostro parvo, subtili, acuto, longitudinem capitis aequante, culmine incurvato, tomiis prope angulum oris tumidis; alis rotundatis; cauda brevi; tarsis mediocribus. Typus: Sp. 40. Oedistoma pygmaeum, nov. sp. ... Questa specie, una delle più piccole dell' intera famiglia dei Melifagidi, somiglia pel colorito al Melilestes iliolophus, mihi, ma ha le copiose piume dei fianchi di un giallo più vivo. A togliere ogni dubbio che non si trattasse di un giovane, come avrebbero potuto far sospettare i margini tumidi dell' angolo della bocca, il Beccari ha avuto cura di notare che il suo individuo è adulto, la quale cosa del resto appare evidente anche per la qualità delle piume."
