(Psittacidae; Ϯ Yellow-capped Pygmy Parrot M. keiensis chloroxantha) Gr. μικρος mikros small; Mod. L. psitta parrot < Gr. ψιττακη psittakē parrot; "XI.e Sous-genre. MICROPSITTE; Micropsitta. Bec très-court, très-haut, très-comprimé sur les côtés, à pointe très-recourbée, à bords saillans, séparés de la pointe par une profonde échancrure triangulaire; mandibule inférieure courte, mutique, rubanée et carénée en devant; tarses très-courts; queue courte, arrondie; chaque rectrice terminée en pointe mucronée, aiguë; ailes pointues, aussi longues que la queue. Observ. Ce sous-genre ne renferme qu'une espèce, d'une taille excessivement petite, vrai pygmée de la famille des perroquets. Cet oiseau curieux, découvert par MM. Quoy et Gaimard à la Nouvelle-Guinée, décrit et figuré dans la partie zoologique du Voyage de l'Astrolabe, en ce moment en publication, est de la grosseur d'un troglodyte ordinaire."
