DEFINITIONS
TAPERA
(Cuculidae; Ϯ Striped Cuckoo T. naevia) Tupí name Taperá home-living (bird), for a sort of swallow (cf. Tupí name Matim tapirera for a cuckoo whose cries represented the voices of the departed); "TAPERA Brasiliensis, Ett nytt Fogel-Slägte .... Character genericus blifver följande: Rostrum capite brevius, compressum. Mandibula superior convexa, longior, integra apice incurva." (Thunberg 1819) (OD per Björn Bergenholtz); "Tapera Thunberg, Götheborgs Kongl. Wett. och Witt. Samh. Nya Handl., 3, 1819, p. 1. Type, by monotypy, Tapera brasiliensis Thunberg = Cuculus naevius Linné." (Peters 1940, IV, 58).
