I. p. 176. 18. ... *) Die Arten dieser Gattung der Mittel-Buntspechte, deren Namen wir wie den der Gröss-Buntspechte aus δενδρον (Baum) und κοπτω (schlagen) zusammensetzten, unterscheiden sich von denen der beiden vorigen Gruppen ausser durch die verhältnissmässig geringere Grösse leicht durch den relativ schwachen, schmalen, spitzigen Schnabel und die in ihren ganzen Ausdehnung rothe Haube. ... Als exotische Repräsentanten der im Texte aufgeführten europäischen Art gelten uns: 2. D. scindeanus Nob. ... 3. D. syriacus Nob."
