DEFINITIONS

HELIANGELUS
(Trochilidae; Ϯ Longuemare's Sunangel H. clarisse) Gr. ἡλιος hēlios  sun; αγγελος angelos  angel; "Genus HELIANGELUS.   Gen. char.—Rostrum rectum, æque ac caput longum, cylindraceum, et ad basin aliquanto depressum.  Plumæ frontales rostri basin non obtegentes.  Alæ mediocriter validæ primaria externa falciformi.  Pedes mediocriter validi, halluce digitum intermedium æquante.  Cauda mediocris, subrotundata.   ...   All the species of this genus are from the Andes, and distinguished by the extreme lustre of the throat, which in most of the species is bounded below by a gorget of white or buff.   Types, Trochilus Clarisse, Spencei, amethysticollis, and strophianus.   HELIANGELUS MAVORS (n. sp.)"
