(Tyrannidae; Ϯ Drab-breasted Bamboo Tyrant H. diops) Gr. ἡμι- hēmi-  small  < ἡμισυς hēmisus  half; τρικκος trikkos  unidentified small bird. In ornithology triccus signifies tyrant flycatcher; "PHYLLOSCARTES   ...   In ihre Nähe würden zu stellen sein die Genera:  Hemitriccus Nob. (von ἡμι, halb und τρικκος = Todus).  (Musciphaga (!) Less. 1831).  Von Euscarthmus durch längere Flügel, stärken und breitern Schwanz und grössere Entwickelung der Bartborsten verschieden:   H. diops. — Muscicapa diops "Natt." Temm. Pl. col. 144.1. — Todirostrum diops Lafr. R. Z. 1846. p. 365. 13. — Euscarthmus vilis Burm. Th. Bras. II. p. 490. — Muscicapa vilis Licht. in Mus. Berol. (Brasilien)." New Spain, the original designation of Mexico).  In early ornithology “New Granada” and “Bogotá” were used to designate species of unknown provenance presumed to be from the Spanish Main (i.e. the Spanish-held Mainland), the hinterland of north-western tropical America.
