(Cuculidae; Ϯ Rufous-vented Ground Cuckoo N. geoffroyi) Gr. νεος neos  new, strange; μορφη morphē  appearance, sort; "Eine neue Gattung scheint nothwendig für den höchst sonderbaren Coccyzus Geoffroyi erfordert zu werden, der von den übrigen Coccyzon-Arten so sehr abweicht und dessen Abweichungen von den letztern solche Theile betressen, deren Eigenthümlichkeit auch ohne Zweifel eine eigenthümliche Lebensart bedingte. — Er hat die Stellung der Zehen wie ein eigentlicher Klettervogel (2,2), aber — hohe stämmige Beine, die Stelzenfüßen ähnlich sehen, einen sehr langen Schwanz und ganz kurze Flügel von einem so besondern Baue und so gerundet wie bei den meisten Hühnervögeln. Er könnte dieser ungewöhnlichen Form-Verhaltnisse wegen Neomorphus heißen. Dieser Name soll jedoch ausgehoben seyn, sobald jemand einen entschieden bessern macht.
