(Laridae; Ϯ Swallow-tailed Gull C. furcatus) Gr. κρεαγρα kreagra  meat-hook, hook  < κρεας kreas, κρεως kreōs  flesh, meat; αγρεω agreō  to catch; "Bec très-arqué, noir à sa base et blanc à l'extrémité" (Néboux 1842); "17. Creagrus, Bp.  72. furcatus, Neboux. . . .ex Am. s. occ." (Bonaparte 1854); "Creagrus Bonaparte, Naumannia, 1854, p. 213. Type, by monotypy, Larus furcatus Néboux." (Peters, 1934, II, p. 326).
