PTYONOPROGNE
(Hirundinidae; Eurasian Crag Martin P. rupestris) Gr. πτυον ptuon  fan   < πτυσσω ptussō  to fold; L. progne  swallow  < Gr. myth. Progne, Procne or Prokne, metamorphosed into a swallow (see Progne).  Reichenbach's 1850, plate LXXXVII, labelled Hirundineae: Hirundininae et Cypselinae, shows the shallowly forked, fan-shaped spread tail of the Eurasian Crag Martin; G. Gray, 1855, Cat. Genera Subgenera Birds Brit. Mus., p. 13, gives Hirundo riparia Linnaeus, 1758,  as the type of this genus; "Ptyonoprogne Reichenbach, Av. Syst. Nat. pl. lxxxvii, 1850.  Type by monotypy, Hirundo rupestris Scop. (also by subsequent designation, Sharpe, Cat. Bds. Brit. Mus. x, p. 95, 1885)." (W. Sclater, 1930, Syst. Av.
