• (Picidae; syn. Dryobates † Lesser Spotted Woodpecker D. minor) "Kleinspecht. Piculus, Brm. ... • (Picidae; syn. Picumnus † Golden-spangled Piculet P. exilis) "VIII. PICULE, Piculus. NOB. I. Geoffroy St.-Hilaire 1832); "Piculus I. Geoffroy St.-Hilaire, 1832, Nouv. Ann. Mus. Hist. Nat., sér. 3, I, p. 396. Type, by original designation, Picus minutus auct. = Picus exilis Lichtenstein, 1823." (JAJ 2021).
• (Picidae; syn. Picumnus † Speckled Piculet P. innominatus) "30. Buccoidæ potius Yunxinæ, Piculus (diminutive of Picus) Vivia Journal, February 1837, nearly allied to Asthenurus." (Hodgson 1841); "Piculus Hodgson, 1841, Journal Asiatic Soc. Bengal, X (1), (no. 109), p. 29. Classical replacement name for Vivia Hodgson, a local substantive name considered inappropriate by some." (JAJ 2020) (see Alcopus).
• (Picidae; syn. Veniliornis † Red-stained Woodpecker V. affinis ruficeps) Von Spix 1824 included six species in his new genus (see above). The Richmond Card Index designated Picus ruficeps as the type by elimination.
