Anatinae genuinae  ...  d. *Rhodonessa Rchb.  caryophyllacea (Anas — Lath.) R.  Ic. Av. t. 85. ic. 919." (Reichenbach 1852). The Pink-headed Duck formerly occurred in the Gangetic and Brahmaputra plains as an uncommon resident of riverine swamps; the last wild observation was from Bihar in 1935, but the last captive bird survived until at least 1945.
