BUGERANUS
(Gruidae; Wattled Crane B. carunculatus) Gr. βου- bou-  huge, great  < βους bous  ox; γερανος geranos  crane; the Wattled Crane has a loud, sonorous, bell-like call; "Ein südafrikanischer von gleicher Größe, aber schiefergrau mit weißem, schwarz begräntzem Halse, (Gr. carunculata,) wäre vielleicht generisch zu trennen.  (Bugeranus.)  Denn er hat nicht bloß ein kahles, hochrothes Gesicht, sondern auch eine Art Kehlsack, und daneben an jeder Seite einen 1½" langen, befiederten, glöckchenartigen Fleischzapfen." (Gloger 1842); "Bugeranus Gloger, Gemein. Handb. Naturg. p. 440, 1842.  Type by original designation, Ardea carunculata Gmel." (W. Sclater, 1924, Syst. Av. Aethiop., I, p. 111).
