(Sturnidae; Ϯ Magpie Starling S. bicolor) Mod. L. speculum speculum < L. speculum, speculi mirror < specere to look at; genus Pastor Temminck, 1815, starling; "Adult male is black and white with brilliant red eyes, in flight with obvious white wing-patches." (Redman et al. 2009); "Speculipastor g.n. Genus novum Sturnidarum. Rostrum mediocre, capite brevius, compressum, culmine arcuato; naribus apertis. Alae caudae basin longe superantes, remigibus 2—4 subaequaelibus longissimis, 5 parum breviore; pogoniis externis remigum 3—6 parte apicale perspicue angustatis. Cauda mediocris rotundata, alis brevior; rectricibus apice latis. Pedes robusti, 5 scutis tarsalibus, digito interno externoque subaequalibus. Typus: Speculipastor bicolor. Speculipaster bicolor sp. n. Coracinus; abdomine, subalaribus et remigum primorum partibus basalibus albis" (Reichenow 1879).
