DEFINITIONS
BASILEUTERUS
(Parulidae; Ϯ Golden-crowned Warbler B. auricapilla) Gr. βασιλευτερος basileuteros more kingly < comp. βασιλευς basileus king; the latter applied by Aristotle to a small bird usually identified as the Wren Troglodytes, but also conjectured to be the Goldcrest Regulus; "Basileuterus **) Cab. nov. gen. 7. B. vermivorus Cab. Contramaestre coronado Azar. No. 154. Sylvia vermivora Vieill. Dict. II. p. 278. Muscicapa vermivora Orb. Lafr. Syn. p. 51. No. 4. ... **) Bασιλευτερος von βασιλευς — Regulus." (Cabanis 1848); "Basileuterus Cabanis, 1849, in Schomburgk, Reisen Brit.-Guiana, 3 (1848), p. 666. Type, by monotypy, Basileuterus vermivorus Cabanis (not Sylvia vermivora Vieillot) = Setophaga auricapilla Swainson." (Lowery & Monroe in Peters, 1968, XIV, p. 59).
