‡ (Callaeidae; Ϯ Huia H. acutirostris) Gr. ἑτερος heteros different; αλοχος alokhos wife; alluding to the striking sexual differences in the shape and length of the bill of the Huia; "Auch die Stellung von Neomorpha Gould wird hier in Betracht zu ziehen sein. Der letztere Gattungsname ist schon früher von Gloger für eine Gruppe der Cuculiden vergeben worden, wir schlagen daher für Neomorpha Gould vor: Gen. Heteralocha. (von ἑτερος, anders, verschieden, und αλοχος, η, Ehegattin.) Typus: H. Gouldi. — Neomorpha Gouldii Gray. N. crassirostris (Mas.) et acutirostris (Fem.) Gould." (Cabanis 1853); "Heteralocha Cabanis, 1851 [= 1853], Mus. Hein., 1, p. 218. Type, by original designation, Heteralocha gouldi Gray = Neomorpha acutirostris Gould."
